Kokomo Hosting Redevelopment Conference

Tuesday, June 28, 2016 05:29 PM EDT
By Alex Brown
Kokomo Hosting Redevelopment Conference Kokomo's Municipal Stadium was recently voted "Best Summer-Collegiate Ballpark" for the second year in a row.

The city of Kokomo will play host Wednesday to the Redevelopment Association of Indiana’s statewide redevelopment conference. The Indiana Association of Cities and Towns affiliate says it chose Kokomo to host the event because of the city’s redevelopment and economic development buzz.

As part of the conference, attendees will tour recently-redeveloped areas of the city, including Municipal Stadium, the historic Depot District, the new downtown YMCA and the solar farm redevelopment at the former Continental Steel site.

"The Redevelopment Association of Indiana is pleased that Kokomo agreed to host its annual site tour this year," said Rhonda Cook, director of government affairs and legislative council for RAI. "The membership specifically asked me to reach out to Kokomo because it is a city they wanted to see. The redevelopment and economic development buzz going on in the city is certainly getting the attention of other municipalities who want to follow Kokomo’s model."

Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight said the city is honored to host the conference and is eager to share its lessons on "redevelopment and urban infilling" with attendees.
