Nine13sports was launched in 2012 and expanded last year to Portland, describing its model as a "turnkey" health and wellness program getting kids riding bicycles. This year, goals include the addition of in Minneapolis, Austin and Nashville. Executive Director Tom Hanley says the program has "great engagement" with the private sector.
Hanley says three-quarters of Nine13sports’ revenue comes from corporate marketing dollars. He says with underwriting from private businesses, schools have never been charged for participation. And he adds, the waiting list is growing. "We’ve got so much demand. In fact, we have about 200 schools on a wait list right now for our programs and our main goal is not only national expansion, but being able to service the local community here in central Indiana. So, between now and the end of the years, we’ve been working at a feverish pace with corporate partners to be able from 40 schools per year to 120 schools per year."
Hanley says involvement from the private sector includes big and small companies like Franciscan St. Francis Health, Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, Hendricks Regional Health, Arbor Homes and United State of Indiana.
