Kentland Federal Savings & Loan, billed as the smallest bank in America, has named a new president. The bank’s board of directors has appointed John Sammons to the role after serving as a pro-bono consultant since 2023.
Sammons is the great grandson of Hume Sammons, who founded the bank in 1920. He previously held roles with IBM, United States Federal Reserve Bank, and Capital One.
The bank’s outgoing president, James Sammons, will continue with the bank as vice president of operations, focusing on mortgage growth and financial education, the bank said in a news release.
Based in the Newton County town of Kentland, Kentland Federal Savings & Loan has about $3.2 million in assets. Both John and James Sammons represent the fourth generation of leadership of the bank.
Kentland is located about 100 miles northwest of Indianapolis.
