Job Totals Released For Carson’s Store Closures

The parent company of Carson’s department stores has provided additional details about its consolidation plans, which include closing five Indiana locations. A notice to the state shows more than 300 jobs will be affected by The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. "store rationalization program."
The announcement follows word that the Milwaukee-based retailer has voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The Indiana locations slated to close in the coming weeks are at Mounds Mall in Anderson, Fair Oaks Mall in Columbus, Concord Mall in Elkhart, Circle Centre Mall in Indianapolis and Five Points Mall in Marion. The Bon-Ton Stores website also lists Carson’s locations that have not been targeted to close in Terre Haute, Kokomo, Fort Wayne, Warsaw, Jasper, Hammond, Merrillville and Michigan City, as well as an Elder-Beerman-branded store in Richmond.
Indiana’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification website says the Indiana jobs are slated to be cut by April 30. The Bon-Ton Stores Divisional Vice President Steve Shimp said in the filing that the company wanted to "be proactive in reaching out so that any support or resources available to our Associates could be communicated as soon as possible."
