Jeffersonville-based Jeffboat LLC has released an updated timeline for the previously-announced closure of its facility. In a notice to the state, the company says the final round of layoffs is expected to begin April 2 and continue through May 14, when the facility will close its doors for good.
Jeffboat says 207 employees will be affected by the closure, the majority of whom are represented by the Teamsters Local 89. One Southern Indiana had previously estimated the impact to be around 170 workers.
The company announced earlier rounds of layoffs in November and February, citing challenges in the barge-building market as reasons for the workforce reductions. 1si Chief Executive Officer Wendy Dant Chesser said earlier this week multiple companies have been in contact about hiring workers displaced by the closure.
