JCPenney to Close Five Indiana Stores

Texas-based J.C. Penney Co. Inc. (NYSE: JCP) has detailed plans to close nearly 140 stores throughout the country, including five in Indiana. The closures are part of the company’s previously-announced plan to "optimize its national retail operations."
JCPenney says about 5,000 employees throughout the country will be impacted by the closures, most of which are expected to occur in June. Most of the 138 stores being closed will begin the liquidation process in April 17. The Indiana stores affected by the announcement include:
- Columbus – Fair Oaks Mall
- Connersville – Connersville Plaza
- Huntington – Huntington Plaza
- Jasper – Jasper Manor Center
- Logansport – Logansport Mall
In addition to the retail stores, the company is also closing one supply chain facility in Florida and relocating another in California. JCPenney originally announced plans for the closure last month, but did not reveal which stores would be affected until Friday.
JCPenney says it expects to save approximately $200 million with the closures.
