J.C. Penney Co. Inc. (NYSE: JCP) has announced plans to close nearly 40 U.S. stores, including one in Indiana. The company says the move, which includes the Marquette Mall location in Michigan City, will affect nearly 2,300 workers throughout the country. The northwest Indiana mall has been for sale since late last year. Its asking price is $11.5 million.

Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the Texas-based retailer expects all the stores to be closed around the beginning of April.
