A subsidiary of Elkhart-based Thor Industries Inc. (NYSE: THO) is expanding. Jayco has broken ground on several building projects on its Middlebury campus which will add more than 400,000 square feet of production space and more than 300 jobs.
Thor says the facilities will include two manufacturing plants, one of which will produce Jayco’s Eagle brand of travel trailers and fifth wheels and is expected to be complete next month. The other will produce Jayco’s line of luxury fifth wheels and will be complete by mid-June.
"The growth Jayco has experienced over the past few years pushed our current production facilities to maximum capacity, so the new buildings will help us not only meet current demand for our products, but give us the space we need to continue to grow," said Matt Thompson, chief operating officer of Jayco. "We want to continue to set the standard for the industry and the new buildings give us the space we need to do so."
Jayco also has a new mill room facility which was completed in October and a lamination facility for the company’s motorized products that is expected to come online by the end of March.
The company has not immediately released an investment total for the project. Thor acquired Jayco in a $576 million deal last year.
