Jasper Mayor Terry Seitz is calling for officials to start lining up funding for the next phases of the city's Downtown Riverfront Master Plan. WJTS-TV reports improvements to the downtown courthouse square could begin later this year. The master plan, which was adopted last year, has five areas of emphasis. They include the courthouse square, connecting downtown and the riverfront, industrial property reuse, downtown connectivity and integrating art.

WJTS-TV reports the city has around $4 million of economic development income tax funds in reserve and it will also get another $1.4 million in that funding per year.

Future funding could also go toward Parklands, the city's newest park.
