The state's community college system will mark a milestone this evening. Ivy Tech will hold its 50th Anniversary Gala at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis. The college says it expects to raise more than $1.3 million during the event. Ivy Tech Community College was established in March 1963 as Indiana Vocational Technical College.

It has grown from one academic program and slightly more than 3,000 students to more than 125 areas of study and nearly 200,000 students a year.

The college has 14 regions and 31 degree-granting campuses.
