Ivy Tech Northeast Scores $240K Grant

Classes will begin this spring.

Ivy Tech Community College Northeast will be providing business administration classes for local workers, thanks to a grant from JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM). The College for Working Adults program will allow students interested in earning a certificate or associate degree to attend classes one night per week.

The classes in the program will follow a cohort model, which means students will complete the program with the same set of peers. Ivy Tech says the ideal students for the program are those with a full-time job who have little free time but want to earn a college degree to further their careers.

"The program allows us to engage with employers and offer them a customized program so their employees can further their education and, ultimately, their careers," says Jennifer Krupa, the coordinator for the College for Working Adults. "This increases the population of Indiana residents with the skills, education, and training needed in local jobs."

Over $102,000 of the grant is earmarked for Ivy Tech Northeast and the rest will be used statewide. The money will be paid in three installments through 2017.

The funds will be used for a part-time program coordinator, a stipend for a faculty member to oversee the program, course development, community outreach and professional development for faculty. Ivy Tech will provide classes and registration on-site.
