Jonathan Weinzapfel says the Achieve Your Degree collaboration involves college education with nothing out-of-pocket for workers interested in "skilling-up." He says employers in the region are struggling to find highly-trained talent and Achieve Your Degree can help get in-house workers up to speed.
Ivy Tech has a similar agreement with Old National Bancorp (Nasdaq: ONB), which Weinzapfel says has proven very popular. He says several employers throughout the region have also expressed interest in partnering.
Deaconess Chief Executive Officer Linda White says "we are excited to expand our partnership with Ivy Tech Community College and provide our staff the opportunity to further their education and skills training. Participation in Achieve Your Degree will produce well-educated health care professionals in a variety of important fields while simultaneously addressing the need for post-secondary education. It’s a win-win situation for our entire community."
Ivy Tech says costs to employees will be covered through financial aid and tuition reimbursement.
Deaconess Health System has six southern Indiana hospitals in southern Indiana: Deaconess Hospital, Deaconess Gateway Hospital, The Women’s Hospital, The Heart Hospital, Deaconess Cross Pointe and HealthSouth Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital.
