Ivy Tech Anderson Plan Clears Hurdle

ANDERSON, Ind. – The Anderson Redevelopment Commission approved up to $1.8 million in TIF funding for 60th Street infrastructure improvements in support of a new Ivy Tech Community College in Anderson. The proposed 85,000 square foot campus will officially be located on a 38 acre site, on the I-69 corridor on 60th Street.
“This partnership with, and the support from the city of Anderson, is extremely important to Ivy Tech,” said Andy Bowne, chancellor for Ivy Tech Community College east central region.
“With the campus location close to the interstate with high visibility and ease of access, we are making the best decision for the students and the community. The 60th Street location also gives us the flexibility and space to accommodate our needs for years to come. We are honored by the investment the redevelopment commission and city leadership has made in the College.”
“While City leadership would have preferred an Edgewood Plaza or downtown Anderson Ivy Tech location, the leadership did believe that it was critical to move forward with Ivy Tech in order to ensure the College's future in the City of Anderson enabling the College to grow its capacity to retain and prepare our people for jobs in the 21st century,” said Greg Winkler, Director of economic development.
The next step in the process is a meeting with the Board of Zoning Appeals, currently scheduled for September 11, 2013.
“We will now begin our work to raise the $4.0 million to fully fund the construction,” said James Willey, vice chancellor for Ivy Tech Community College Anderson campus. “It is exciting to see the plans move forward. The benefits to the residents of Anderson and Madison County, along with those in our surrounding counties, will be monumental.”
Ivy Tech Community College is the state's largest public postsecondary institution and the nation's largest singly accredited statewide community college system serving nearly 200,000 students annually. Ivy Tech has campuses throughout Indiana. It serves as the state's engine of workforce development, offering affordable degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs of its communities. In addition, its courses and programs transfer to other colleges and universities in Indiana. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association.
