Indiana University South Bend is adding a women’s soccer program. The new team is slated to begin competing next fall in the NAIA’s Chicagoland Conference. Bob Barnes, who spent 19 seasons as the head coach of Ohio Wesleyan’s team, will serve as the Titans’ first head coach.

Executive Director of Athletics and Activities Steve Bruce says "Coach Barnes is the perfect person to build the IU South Bend women’s soccer program. We are fortunate to have someone of his stature and experience as our first head coach."

Barnes guided Ohio Wesleyan to NCAA Division III championships in 2001 and 2002 and at one point, his teams notched 60 consecutive wins, which is a Division III record. Barnes says "there is so much talent between  Indianapolis and Chicago who can now play collegiately at IU South Bend."

The team’s home field will be Newton Park in Lakeville and the team will carry 22-25 players. The school now has a total of 13 varsity athletic teams.
