If approved, the request would raise rates by nearly 20 percent by 2019.
The hearing will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the Grand Wayne Convention Center in Fort Wayne. Customers will have the chance to speak directly to commissioners or submit written comments.
I&M’s proposed increase, which was announced in July, is part of its Building The Future and will help the utility replace about 1,400 poles, more than 20 miles of overhead lines and more than 12 miles of underground lines. It would also accelerate efforts to trim or clear trees and other vegetation which is the number one source of power outages, according to the utility.
Implemented over two phases beginning in the summer of 2018, I&M says the average customer would see an increase of less than $1 per day, if the rate increase is approved.
The IURC says, because the case is pending, the commissioners will not be allowed to answer questions or engage in discussion about the case. Those who cannot attend the field hearing will be able to submit comments to the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor by clicking here.
