The School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI has announced Barbara Christe has been appointed to the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC) of ABET. She is an associate professor and director of the school’s Healthcare Engineering Technology Management program. After 12 years of teaching engineering technology at the Community College of Rhode Island, Christe joined IUPUI in 1998. Prior to entering the educational field, she was a clinical engineer at the University of Connecticut’s Health Center. Christe was selected by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation. Her responsibilities include serving as a training mentor for ETAC program evaluator candidates and as team chair during program accreditation visits. ABET is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. It accredits college and university programs in the disciplines of applied science, computing, engineering and engineering technology at the associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degree levels. The Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET is responsible for reviewing engineering technology programs and making the final accreditation decision for each program.
