The center was originally scheduled to open in April but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The center is currently closed to the public, but is offering free teletherapy services to students and community members during the COVID-19 outbreak. The center is designed to provide training for graduate students in the school’s master’s degree program in Mental Health Counseling, along with offering mental health services. The center will typically help with issues like anxiety, depression, relationship problems, grief, parenting challenges and career and educational decision-making.
The center will offer free counseling services to IUPUC, Ivy Tech Columbus and Purdue Polytechnic students, active duty military and their families, and veterans, once it opens for in-person sessions. Community members will also have access for a fee of $10 to $50, depending on the service.
“Although we were disappointed that we were not able to open the center as planned this spring, we are happy that through the use of secure technology, we can use the center to provide our community with an additional mental health resource during this time of need,” said center director Dr. Diedra Hayman.
