Plans call for enclosing the south side of the venue with an addition that would include The Excellence Academy, a rehabilitation, treatment and research facility, a new Hoosier Room, which is a dining and entertainment space, and a multipurpose event suite overlooking the field.
The expansion involves a total of more than 66,500 square-feet. Other parts of the project include:
- a roof-top event terrace and turf playfield
- a large new video scoreboard and an upgraded video board for the opposite end of the field
- bigger and more modern locker room and coaching facilities
- a player’s lounge
- a new lobby at the north end zone concourse level
The work will create a continuous loop around the stadium, which originally opened in 1960. The project still needs state approval and would be paid for through donations.
Trustees are meeting Thursday and Friday at the IUPUI campus where they will also vote on the design of a new 10th Street and Woodlawn Avenue Gateway on the main campus and a courtyard and event space project on the IU Kokomo campus.
