The university says the initiative will focus on a "comprehensive response to the state’s opioid addiction crisis."
The project will include collaboration among all of IU’s seven campuses along with state officials. IU Vice President for Research Fred Cate and IU Health Chief Executive Officer Dennis Murphy will also be on hand for the announcement, which is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
The IU Grand Challenges Program is a five-year, $300 million effort to find solutions for the world’s most pressing issues. In 2016, IU detailed the Precision Health Initiative, which aims to cure one cancer and one childhood disease over the next decade. In May, the university announced the Prepared for Environmental Change initiative, which seeks to predict climate change-related threats and develop solutions for businesses, agriculture and communities.
Also on Tuesday, McRobbie will deliver his State of the University at Hine Hall on the IUPUI campus. You can view a livestream of both events by clicking here.
