IU South Bend signs admissions agreement with two Michiana school districts

High school students graduating from School City of Mishawaka and Elkhart Community Schools now have access to a seamless admission process into Indiana University South Bend. Instead of filling out the traditional application, these students will only need to fill out a short online form to qualify for admission starting this fall.
IU South Bend will consider each individual’s grade point average, high school diploma type, and optional standard test scores to either grant full or conditional admission, the university said in a news release.
“This partnership with School City of Mishawaka represents one way we can eliminate barriers to higher education,” IUSB Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Jill Pearon said. “With this simplified application process, we are recognizing the hard work of these high school students and reinforcing our commitment to their success.”
Currently more than 65% of IUSB graduates live and work in the region, and with the latest partnership with the two school districts, the university said it hopes to increase post-college retention rates.
“We are thrilled to begin this new partnership between Mishawaka High School and Indiana University South Bend, which allows our students to bypass the traditional application process,” Mishawaka High School Principal Chad Brugh said. “This agreement is a significant step forward for our students, offering them a streamlined path to higher education and new opportunities for success.”
School City of Mishawaka also heard from alumni who believe the simplified process will reduce the stress brought on by the last year of high school.
“Senior year of high school was extremely stressful for me, and the process of applying to college was confusing and only added to that stress,” Mishawaka High School graduate and IU South Bend Sophomore Cienna King said. “I’m excited about this new process being introduced because I know it will help future graduating seniors make their transition into college life easier.”
IUSB said it is in conversation with other school districts to implement the seamless admissions partnership.
