IU, OrthoWorx Collaboration Takes Flight

Subscribe NowA new partnership between the orthopedics industry and academia will target therapies for patients with musculoskeletal injuries or diseases. The collaboration among Indiana University, the Indiana University Research and Technology Corp. and AcceLINX, a business accelerator launched by Warsaw-based OrthoWorx, will focus on development and commercialization of technologies developed at the university.
IURTC Chief Executive Officer Tony Armstrong says the partnership could help bring faculty, student and staff ideas to market. "If these inventors lack the commercial and operating experience to advance a technology," he says, "AcceLINX has the expertise and the network of resources to partner with us to help provide a quicker transition from idea to successful product or service."
IU and the IURTC will gain access to experts at AcceLINX, who can provide industry and subject-matter know-how, as well as screen and provide feedback to inventor or help with sourcing capital. Officials say AcceLINX, IU and the IURTC will also collaborate to find private sector-originated research opportunities for university-related faculty or graduate students.
AcceLINX President Sheryl Conley says "we have a tremendous opportunity to support musculoskeletal-related technologies developed right here in the state of Indiana at our premier universities. In the process, we may attract additional investment capital to the state, create or sustain jobs in the area, and further cement our reputation as the orthopedic capital of the world."
