Shelton, who has served as head coach of the university’s women’s basketball team for the past 10 years, will begin his new role in May.
IU Northwest says Shelton will continue to coach the women’s basketball team, which he has led to eight winning seasons in the last nine years. In his new role, Shelton will oversee the university’s six other NAIA Division II teams, including men’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country and golf, and women’s volleyball.
Shelton was named the NAIA Association of Independent Institution Conference Coach of the Year for the fourth time in March. He also earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from IU Northwest.
Additionally, the university has named Anna Villanueva assistant athletic director. A former volleyball and basketball player for IU Northwest, Villanueva, an assistant coach for the university’s women’s volleyball team, most recently served as director of operations.
