The school says Propel will offer individualized academic and career advising.
The university says the Propel program, which will launch this fall, aims to help students "prepare for life after graduation from the moment they begin the admissions process." IU says the effort is necessary because an increasing number of Kelley online students are looking to transition into new careers, meaning they have different needs than those who are looking to progress at their current company.
Kelley Director of Graduate Career Services Eric Johnson says, while many career offices throughout the United States take one approach, "we acknowledge that each of our graduate programs are different, and cater to students with unique needs and contexts." He says Propel will offer program-specific career management for each degree program.
Under Propel, students will prepare a professional development plan beginning in their first academic term. In the second year, advisors work with students on dual degree or experiential learning options. In the final year, students receive career coaching and a final review of the professional development and individual goals.
