IU Health to invest $214 million in West Lafayette hospital, Lafayette cancer center

Indiana University Health is planning to invest $214 million to grow health care services in Tippecanoe County through its Greater Lafayette Community Growth Project.
As part of the investment, the health system said Friday it will build a new hospital in West Lafayette and add a state-of-the-art cancer center on the Arnett Hospital campus in Lafayette.
“Several years ago, we recognized that Greater Lafayette was on the cusp of significant growth,” IU Health West Region President Art Vasquez said in a news release. “We planted our flag early, confident in the community’s potential and committed to being part of its future. This is a major milestone, not just for our organization, but for our community.”
IU Health said the Greater Lafayette Community Growth Project will result in 210 new full-time jobs by 2030. They include 29 physicians, 10 advanced practice providers and 69 nurses, as well as more than 100 additional essential health care positions.
West Lafayette Hospital
The new IU Health West Lafayette Hospital will feature a 24/7 emergency department, inpatient care, multiple operating rooms, advanced imaging and laboratory services, and a helipad for emergency transportation,
The health system said the hospital will expand access to preventive care in the city.
“IU Health has brought many firsts to Tippecanoe County: the first multi-specialty clinic, the first cardiology and pediatric departments and the first urgent care. Now, we’re preparing to bring another milestone—the first hospital in West Lafayette,” IU Health CEO Dennis Murphy said in the release. “Throughout every era, IU Health has consistently followed through—investing in infrastructure, talent and innovation to meet the evolving needs of the communities we proudly serve.”
Cancer Center
IU Health plans to relocate the existing IU Health Cancer Center—Lafayette from its current location on 26th Street to a new, 55,000-square-foot facility on the Arnett Hospital campus.
The health system said the relocation will create a “more integrated patient care experience across the health care continuum.”
The new cancer center will have the capacity to provide infusion therapies to 32 patients simultaneously, a 23% increase compared to its current capacity. IU Health said it will also include an oncology rapid access clinic, two linear accelerators, advanced radiation therapy technologies, and precision genomics services.
The facility will also provide additional integrative services such as art therapy, massage therapy, music therapy, support groups, yoga for relaxation and spiritual care.
Construction on both the cancer center and hospital is expected to begin in 2026, with both facilities projected to open in 2028.
Additional projects
As construction on the new facilities begins, IU Health also plans to undergo an 8,000 renovation of the IU Health Medical Offices in West Lafayette. The move will establish a multispecialty clinic inside the building to bring access to specialty medical care to West Lafayette.
The health system said it will also establish a new rapid access cardiology clinic at the same location on Sagamore Parkway, as well as a walk-in orthopedic clinic.
