Indiana University Health is reporting operating income of $414 million during the first half of the year as the health system continues its business recovery from the pandemic. IU Health says it responded to strong patient demand across its system.
Over the first half of 2021, the number of surgeries is up 35%, compared to 2020 when non-essential surgeries and procedures were restricted due to the pandemic.
The hospital says the higher patient volumes were reflected in operating revenue that rose 15.6% to $3.8 billion, while expenses increased 10.8% to $3.4 billion from the year-ago period.
Meanwhile, IU Health says it will this month increase its minimum wage for staff to $16 an hour. The health system says the base pay will increase to $18 with two years of service.
