IU Health marks construction milestone for Fort Wayne hospital

Indiana University Health on Wednesday held a topping out ceremony to place the final steel beam on its $421 million hospital in Fort Wayne. Construction on the hospital began last September, and when complete, the facility will employ about 500 people.
The topping out ceremony took place almost one year to the day after plans for the hospital were first announced.
The health system is adding 140 beds, 17 ER exam rooms and six exam rooms, in addition to three catheterization labs for advanced cardiac procedures, and up to four endoscopy rooms for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
IU Health Fort Wayne President Brian Bauer told our partners at WPTA Channel 21 that the hospital will sit on a 300-acre property that will serve as the anchor for a community campus.
“We’re engaging with people right now,” he said. “What do we bring to this campus to be partners with Southwest Allen County Schools and neighborhoods? We want to keep a lot of green space, trails, and just make it a showpiece for Fort Wayne.“
Construction is slated for completion in May 2027.
