Indiana University Health has announced leadership changes in its East Central Region. Among them, the health system says IU Health Blackford Hospital President Steven West will retire from his administrative duties next month.

West, who has been with the Hartford City hospital since 1998 and served as president since 2016, will officially step down June 10. However, he will remain with IU Health as a member of the IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital Foundation Board of Directors.

Additionally, the health system says Dave Hyatt, who currently serves as president of IU Health Jay Hospital in Portland, has been promoted to Critical Access Hospital President in the East Central Region. In his new role, Hyatt will be responsible for both the Blackford and Jay hospitals.

"Critical access hospitals serve an important role, particularly in Indiana to maintain access to high quality healthcare in rural areas," said Jeff Bird, president of IU Health’s East Central Region. "They also present a unique set of challenges and opportunities in the ever changing healthcare landscape. It is clear that as we move forward, there are several advantages to be gained by having a central leader for both IU Health Jay and IU Health Blackford Hospitals."

Hyatt has served as president of Jay Hospital since 2013 and previously held leadership roles at IU Health LaPorte Hospital and IU Health Starke Hospital.

The health system’s East Central Region includes IU Health Ball Memorial, Blackford and Jay hospitals.
