IU Health has named Ovell Barbee senior vice president and chief human resources officer. He joins IU Health from Spectrum Health Systems in Michigan, where he was senior vice president of human resources and chief diversity officer. Prior to Spectrum Health, Barbee was vice president of human resources at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska. He also held HR leadership positions at Motorola and OnStar/General Motors. Barbee earned master’s degrees in social work from University of Michigan and in human resources and labor management from Michigan State University and an undergraduate degree in communications from University of Michigan. Barbee currently serves on the board of the National Coalition for Racial Justice and Equity (National Diversity Council) and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

Also, Laura Pickett has been promoted to vice president and chief patient and family engagement officer. She will oversee efforts to create the best possible experience for patients and their families, including promoting a culture of service excellence, improving workflows to ease navigation across care processes, and driving an equitable, collaborative approach to care. Pickett previously served as vice president of administration & operations for the IU Health Foundation. She joined IU Health in 2010 in marketing on the corporate partnerships and events team.
