Laura Sisk, who graduated from IU’s Jacobs School of Music, received a trophy for her engineering work on Swift’s album 1989.
Sisk was the engineer on three songs on the album, including "I Wish You Would," "Out of the Woods," and "You Are In Love." The Album of the Year Award goes to the artist, producers, engineers, mixers and mastering engineers.
"The music industry is a male-dominated field, and it is a thrill to be one of the women coming up in it, especially on the technical side," Sisk told the Art at IU blog. "A lot of artists tell me I’m the only female engineer they’ve ever worked with and that it’s exciting because there is a different energy in the studio."
Sisk was selected as a Barbara and David Jacobs Scholar in the Department of Recording Arts, which is part of the Jacobs School of Music. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2010.
