IU Cybersecurity Researchers Heading to Crane
Two researchers from the Indiana University Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research will serve as temporary faculty members at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division. The university says Craig Jackson and Scott Russell will work on cybersecurity research with Navy leaders at Crane in support of Navy and U.S. Department of Defense systems.
Jackson is the chief policy analyst at the CACR and Russell is a senior policy analyst. The appointment is part of a two-year partnership between IU and Crane, signed in July 2016, to share personnel and expertise in an effort to advance research and development in cybersecurity.
"Our collaborative relationship with Indiana University continues to grow," said Brett Seidle, technical director at NSWC Crane. "The recent appointments of Mr. Jackson and Mr. Russell to NSWC Crane will bring invaluable expertise that will help us enhance our ability to address cybersecurity concerns within the DoD and ultimately support our service men and women."
IU says Jackson and Russell have research interests that align well with Crane, including information security program development, governance, and evaluation, as well as risk management and innovative control and process design, among others. Jackson says the appointments will allow him and Russell to "really zero in on the issues affecting the U.S. Navy and national defense."
Brad Wheeler, vice president for information technology at IU, says the exchange of personnel is important to address what he calls a "critical area of concern for national defense and economic security."
