IU Bloomington Selected For ‘Diplomacy Lab’

The paid parental leave policy will begin July 1.

Indiana University Bloomington has been added to the list of partner institutions for the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomacy Lab. The lab aims to give students hands-on experience in global policy challenges.

The IU School of Global and International Studies will serve as the administrative hub for the Diplomacy Lab program beginning this fall. IU says the hub will "call upon faculty and their students from across the campus to consider policy solutions for urgent diplomatic issues identified by the federal agency."

"Diplomacy Lab presents a wonderful opportunity for our students to fill a real need for the State Department and its mission to meet international challenges such as democracy and human rights, economic policy, gender equality and food security," said Lauren Robel, provost and executive vice president at IU Bloomington. "Participants will gain real-world global experience right here in Bloomington that is as useful to the student as to the agency. It also gives students the chance to work closely with an IU faculty member as part of an interdisciplinary research team."

IU Bloomington joins 27 other Diplomacy Lab campuses throughout the country, including IUPUI and the University of Notre Dame. IU says students in select courses will devise solutions that the State Department can use on issues including climate change, counter-terrorism, food security and more.

IU adds students who have participated in the Diplomacy Lab have received government internships, graduate work and permanent jobs with the State Department. You can find more information about the Diplomacy Lab by clicking here.
