ISU President Discusses Strategies, Challenges

Subscribe NowIndiana State University President Deborah Curtis is providing updates on her vision for the Terre Haute campus and updated some key developments. During her first fall address since taking the helm in April, Curtis said the bidding process for the overhaul of the Hulman Center will begin this week, a new team is meeting weekly to work on issues including decreased enrollment and there will be tweaks made to ISU’s "There’s More to Blue" strategic plan.
Curtis also discussed a need to boost donations, added she will spend time with Andrea Angel, who was recently named the next chief executive officer of the ISU Foundation. "We must increase our private support for this university," Curtis said. "Philanthropic giving can make a tremendous difference in serving our students with unmet financial need and enhancing our academic programs, faculty support, and facilities."
Project updates include the expected fall 2019 completion of renovations to the Fine Arts Building and $16 million in work to Sycamore Dining Hall, which is slated to start by year’s end. ISU has already requested $18.4 million from the state for Dreiser Hall renovations. The university says its budget and capital project details will be finalized late next spring.
"The demographics of our world and our state are changing, and we must adapt as well," said Curtis. "We must look beyond the traditional college-aged student whom we will continue to serve to also address the needs of the more than 700,000 Hoosiers with some college but no degree. More than ever before, the state’s economy needs an educated workforce to drive it."
