The school has added a Piper Arrow IV, the second new aircraft to be added since the academy launched two years ago.
"Enrollment in the ISU Flight Academy is increasing at the rate of 13 percent each year, well above the already impressive three percent annual growth of the university’s overall enrollment," said Associate Professor of Aviation Technology Harry Minniear.
137 students are currently enrolled in the ISU Flight Academy and 104 of those students are actively flying.
Assistant Chief Pilot Jalal Zreba-Dover says the Piper Arrow is the primary training aircraft for commercial pilot applicants. "Our current Arrow was 100 percent utilized, having flown more than 1,300 hours in a two-year time frame. "By adding one more to the fleet, we can take better care of our students and adjust for the growth of incoming freshmen."
The university says more than 30 students will use the new Piper Arrow this semester. The new plane brings the total number of aircrafts to 13.
