The board approved the delay and announced the elimination of spring break on Thursday.
The semester will start January 19 and the last day of spring classes is April 30, with final exams still to be held from May 3-7.
The university says the changes are designed to lessen the impact of COVID-19 on in-person classes. University policy states students and faculty will be asked to self-quarantine for at least 10 days before returning to campus in January.
Board members say the elimination of spring break will reduce travel and lessen the likelihood of spreading the virus to the school community.
