Three Indiana State University alums have created endowed scholarships for students enrolled in the university’s Scott College of Business.
Nick and Makayla McCollum, who both graduated in 2019, and Kate Sullivan, who graduated in 2016, made the contribution to help students who need financial assistance, the university said in a news release.
“As proud alumni, their generosity and commitment highlight the strength and reach of our Indiana State University family across the country,” ISU President Mike Godard said in the release. “Their thoughtful investment in scholarships reflects a deep belief in our mission and ensures that future generations of Sycamores have the opportunity and support they need to thrive.”
The amount of the financial contributions was undisclosed.
The McCollums both graduated with degrees in insurance and risk management. Nick, who is the chair of the alumni board. is a risk advisor at First Insurance Group Inc. Makayla is a farm underwriter at Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Co.
Their scholarship benefits members of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity or Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. The couple said in the release that their own success is largely due to the connections and life lessons gained while at Indiana State.
Kate Sullivan, vice chair of the alumni board, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance and is now a wealth adviser at Bedel Financial Consulting Inc. Her scholarship aims to support business college students who have aspirations of becoming a certified financial planner.
“Student success is an initiative that is near and dear to my heart,” Sullivan said. “My hope with this gift is that it inspires others to give. The sooner you start, the more people you will impact, and the larger the impact you will make.”
