IPL Confirms Death at Construction Site

The combined-cycle gas turbine plant was announced in 2014.

Indianapolis Power & Light Co. has confirmed the death of a contractor at the construction site of its combined-cycle gas turbine plant near Martinsville. The utility did not release details on what caused the fatality.

"Safety remains IPL’s top priority, and we will continue working with emergency personnel to confirm details regarding the incident," IPL said in a prepared statement.

The $600 million facility was announced in 2014. It is located at IPL’s Eagle Valley Generating Station, five miles north of Martinsville. The project is expected to be completed in 2017.
