The rebound continues for Inventrek Technology Park in Kokomo. The facility, which is undergoing restoration work after suffering severe storm damage last summer, has been re-certified as a state Certified Technology Park.

Mike McCool, manager of economic development for the Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance, says the facility received the re-certification based on the assumption that it will be up and running by the end of the first quarter. He says the designation will allow Inventrek to recapture certain state and local tax revenue.

"That money is reinvested in the Inventrek facility and the programming it offers to help local entrepreneurs and start-up businesses become successful," said McCool. "Inventrek serves an important role as the high-tech epicenter for the greater Kokomo area and having the facility re-certified as a Certified Tech Park continues to fuel Kokomo’s status as an entrepreneurial city."

Crews began interior restoration work in late December after completing work on the main roof of the building, which partially collapsed after tornado-producing storms ripped through the area in August. McCool says renovation work is on schedule to reopen in March.

Inventrek is home to a number of tenants, including the city’s first coworking space, The Shared Drive.
