Inventor Philip Low to give Purdue’s summer commencement addresses

Philip Low, Purdue’s Presidential Scholar for Drug Discovery and the Ralph C. Corley Distinguished Professor of Chemistry in the College of Science, will deliver a commencement address at Purdue’s two summer ceremonies.
The events on Aug. 9 at Elliott Hall of Music will recognize 1,725 graduates, including 612 undergraduates, 1,104 graduate students and nine students from Purdue Polytechnic Institute’s statewide programs.
Low, a member of IBJ Media’s Indiana 250, is a chemist, entrepreneur and inventor, who holds more than 100 U.S.-issued patents, which are managed through the Purdue Innovates Office of Technology Commercialization. He has co-founded seven companies based on his research and recently formed and funded the Low Institute for Therapeutics to accelerate the commercialization of his laboratory’s most promising discoveries.
The first ceremony will be at 9:30 a.m. and includes the colleges of agriculture, education, engineering, veterinary medicine and business as well as joint and special programs. A 2:30 p.m. ceremony will include the colleges of health and human services, liberal arts, pharmacy and science as well as Purdue Polytechnic Institute.
Tickets are required to attend the ceremonies, but they will be livestreamed on Purdue’s YouTube channel.
Katelyn Hickman of Lafayette, who will be graduating with degrees in marketing and business management from the Mitch Daniels School of Business, will also give an address during the morning ceremony.
Christopher Park of Atlanta, Georgia, who is graduating with a bachelor’s in computer and information technology from the Purdue Polytechnic Institute, will deliver an address at the afternoon ceremony.
