The Indiana Department of Transportation says I-94 near Michigan City has reopened following Thursday's accident involving more than 40 vehicles. Three people were killed in the massive pileup and more than 20 were injured. Video from our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana shows the extent of damage to several semi-trucks and other vehicles. Authorities say it could take weeks to complete the investigation. They believe weather was a factor. The area was experiencing “extreme whiteout” conditions at the time of the crash.

A man from Chicago and a couple from Grand Rapids, Michigan were killed. All were in their 60s.
