Infosys Foundation to Kick Off Pathfinders Institute

The nonprofit arm of India-based Infosys will Sunday kick off its 2018 Pathfinders Summer Institute on the campus of Indiana University Bloomington. Infosys Foundation USA says the week-long initiative aims to provide professional development in computer science for more than 800 teachers from throughout the United States.
The institute was first announced in December and then-Foundation Chairperson Kaustav Mitra told Inside INdiana Business the goal is to address one of the biggest gaps in education. It will also provide training for school counselors to better support students looking toward careers in computer science and computer science education.
"The idea is, given that the number of computer science teachers is so few, it’s easy for teachers to feel isolated," said Mitra. "So the idea of bringing them into one location, these 800-plus teachers, is so that there’s a sense of community that even though you may not know it, there’s this huge community of teachers all around the country who are all doing this."
The initiative will serve teachers at varying levels from Kindergarten through 12th grade. You can learn more about the Pathfinders Summer Institute by clicking here.
