IndyHumane CEO to Retire

The chief executive officer of the Humane Society of Indianapolis is retiring. John Aleshire, who led the organization for eight years, will remain in his position through September of 2017.

IndyHumane says Aleshire’s efforts as CEO led to the elimination of the organization’s debt in 2014. He also helped launch the IndyHumane Animal Welfare Center and two mobile services for low-cost vaccines and adoptions.

"I’m very grateful that I had the opportunity to serve our pets, our community, and my IndyHumane family," said Aleshire. "I will continue to be a voice and advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves, and I leave the organization with so many memories that I will truly cherish forever." 

IndyHumane Board Chairman Michael Stewart says the organization "has never been in a stronger position to meet the needs of the community," thanks to Aleshire’s leadership. The IndyHumane Board of Directors and senior management team will begin a search for Aleshire’s successor in early 2017.
