IndyGo Red Line Project Receives Last of Federal Funding

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration has distributed the final $25 million to IndyGo for the Red Line Rapid Transit Project. The FTA funding is included in $249 million appropriated in Fiscal Year 2018 for four projects in Indiana, California, New Mexico and Washington. 

The 13.1 mile first phase of the project will connect downtown Indianapolis with Broad Ripple to the north and the University of Indianapolis to the south. It includes 27 new stations and 13 new 60-foot articulated electric buses. An FTA grant of $75 million for the entire project was announced in May. 

Construction on the $96 million project began in June, and will eventually run from Westfield to Greenwood. You can find more information at the Red Line website.
