Eric Ellsworth, who has led the organization for nearly 13 years, says he will step down at the end of the year.
During his tenure, Ellsworth led efforts to double the number of YMCA branches in the Indianapolis area from six to 12 and recently launched a campaign to build a new facility in Westfield. The number of YMCA members has also doubled during that time, and the organization’s annual budget has grown from $30 million to $55 million.
"Eric has raised the bar for Greater Indianapolis and for YMCAs across the country," said Jeffrey Harrison, chairman of the YMCA Board of Directors. "People and communities across Central Indiana are stronger and healthier because of him. Eric embodies the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. He is one of the kindest, most thoughtful leaders in our community. He‘s also been a good friend and colleague to me."
Harrison and representatives from YMCA of the USA will lead a national search to find a successor for Ellsworth. The organization says the goal is to have a new CEO in place by January.
