Visit Indy Vice President Chris Gahl says he is “very confident” one of the largest annual conventions in the city will remain in Indianapolis for a long time to come. The Fire Department Instructors Conference, which began today, is currently on the books with Indianapolis through 2020. Visit Indy expects this year's event to generate an economic impact of more than $32 million. Gahl says the ability to use the entire Indiana Convention Center and the floor of Lucas Oil Stadium has been a major attraction for the annual event. He says organizers also like the city's central location, walkability and the opportunity to “own the town” during the convention.

He says the conference is the third-largest Indianapolis will host this year, behind Gen Con and the Work Truck Show.

The Fire Department Instructors Conference has been in Indianapolis since 1995.
