Inside INdiana Business has learned the city will partner with IUPUI and Lilly Endowment Inc. on the near west side effort that will include street improvements and upgrades to the Indiana University Natatorium. Officials are set to release more details at a Monday morning news conference. The city, IUPUI and the Lilly Endowment will each contribute $10 million toward the effort. Construction is expected to begin in 2015 and take about two years. The city's funds will come from downtown tax increment financing district revenues.
Organizers hope the effort will result in larger events coming to the Natatorium and more students attending IUPUI. The effort also aims to draw new residents to the neighborhood through the infrastructure improvements.
Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and Indiana University President Michael McRobbie are expected to take part in Monday morning's announcement.
