The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded major contracts to two manufacturers in Indianapolis. Rolls-Royce Corp. will receive nearly $41 million for the production of marine turbine engines and Allison Transmission Holdings Inc. (NYSE: ALSN) will receive nearly $21 million for transmission overhaul kits.
The Rolls-Royce contract calls for 20 MT7 marine turbine engines for Landing Craft Air Cusion vehicles in support the U.S. Navy’s Ship-to-Shore Connector program. Work is expected to be performed in Indianapolis and be complete by January 2020.
The contract for Allison Transmission will provide the transmission overhaul kits for the U.S. Army. Work is expected to be formed in Indiana and be complete by the end of 2019.
The Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington D.C. and the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime in Michigan are the respective contracting activities.
