The distinction means that the hospital is equipped to deal with the most seriously injured patients. St. Vincent says its trauma center in Indianapolis is the second-busiest in the state.
"From the outset, St. Vincent has always been committed to providing the highest level of care for trauma patients in Indiana,” said Dr. Lewis Jacobson, medical director of the trauma center at St.Vincent Indianapolis. "Recognition from the team of expert reviewers at the ACS is a testament to the hard work of our associates, who stand ready to meet the needs of the most seriously injured patients at a moment’s notice."
Jacobson adds Level I Trauma Centers provide trauma education, research, disaster management and system planning. Eskenazi Hospital and IU Health Methodist Hospital, both also located in Indianapolis, are the other two Level I Trauma Centers in the state.
