News Release

Indianapolis, Ind. — Mark LaFay of Sonar Studios was just selected by Google to beta test its latest technology innovation, Google Glass. He says he'll do so by creating apps for the device.

“Being a part of the Glass beta test is very exciting. The technology is truly innovative, and we think it represents a direction for technology that was only dreamed of a few years ago,” said LaFay, COO at Sonar Studios.

Glass is a wearable computer with an optical head-mounted display, complete with camera, bone-induction audio and voice control for interacting with the Internet through natural language commands.

Sonar Studios was a Mira finalist for Innovation of the Year in 2010 and again for Excellence and Innovation in Education in 2013. With LaFay, the company plans to continue its streak of innovation by creating custom applications for Google Glass specifically to change the way educators teach and students learn.

“Early adopters usually focus on how to use a technology for entertainment. It’s the second wave of users that tend to focus more on how to use the technology for innovation,” said Vince Freeman, Sonar Studios CEO. “Sure, new technology can be fun, but when that fun can do something for the greater good, like improve education, then you have real innovation.”

Of course, Sonar intends to have its share of fun with the new device as well, LaFay said. Plans are in the works for a member of the Sonar team to take a ride in an aerial stunt plane, hot air balloon ride and other activities while wearing Google glass.

Sonar will document its progress and experiences with Glass in its blog and “Five Things we Learned” email newsletter. Sign up for the newsletter at sonarstudios.com.
