Indy Eleven Professional Soccer has hired a head coach with more than three decades of experience. Tim Hankinson previously coached in the team’s North American Soccer League, as well as Major League Soccer and international competition. He most recently served as head coach of Montego Bay United in the Jamaican Red Stripe National Premier League.
Interim Head Coach Tim Regan, who replaced Director of Soccer Operations Juergen Sommer at the helm mid-season, will remain on-staff in his previous capacity as assistant coach. Regan has been with the organization during its first two seasons.
Owner Ersal Ozdemir says "experienced candidates were a focal point of our search, and few coaches have the knowledge of American soccer that Tim Hankinson does. On behalf of the Indy Eleven family I want to welcome Tim and his wife, Yvette, to Indianapolis and look forward to them receiving the support of one of the most passionate fan bases in the country."
Hankinson has coached in the U.S. and abroad for 36 years. He was the first head coach of the NASL’s San Antonio Scorpions in 2012, held several MLS coaching positions from 1996-2004.
The team will begin its third NASL season next year at 10,524-seat Michael A. Carroll Stadium on the campus of IUPUI.
