The Indy Eleven Soccer Foundation will focus on "supporting education, soccer and other athletic programs and facilities."
The team says the ultimate goal is to promote healthy lifestyles and character development in underserved communities. Indy Eleven Owner Ersal Ozdemir said professional sports teams have an obligation to make their communities better places to live.
"Sports have a unique way of bringing people together," said Ozdemir. "Through this foundation, we will search for ways in which soccer can unite our communities and strengthen the character of the next generation of leaders in Indiana and beyond."
The foundation’s formation includes a 17-member board which includes soccer, business, civic and communities leaders from throughout the state.
"Indy Eleven has done a fantastic job with grass roots outreach and creating strong community bonds in its first few years, making the creation of the Indy Eleven Soccer Foundation a logical next step in the club’s growth," said Indy Eleven president and Indy Eleven Soccer Foundation board member Jeff Belskus. "This foundation will make the sport of soccer’s roots throughout Indiana even stronger by championing causes and creating meaningful programs and partnerships that will have a lasting benefit for youths statewide."
